Catkin Hollow is designed to be easy to pause, configure, and continue. Work through the relevant section below first. If the issue remains, the contact checklist near the bottom will help us understand exactly what happened.

CONTROLS

Default keyboard controls

  • Move: W A S D or Arrow Keys
  • Interact / Continue: E
  • Claw Attack: J
  • Map / Journal: Tab / Q
  • Settings / Pause: F1 or Esc
  • Save / Load: F5 / F9
  • Music / Fullscreen: M / F11

Gameplay controls can be reassigned from Main Menu → Controls.

SAVE DATA

Protect your progress

Press F5 during gameplay to create or update your local save. Use Continue on the title screen or press F9 during play to load it.

  • Save after major quests, upgrades, and rare-room discoveries.
  • Do not move or rename save files while the game is running.
  • Include whether Continue or F9 failed when reporting a save issue.
DISPLAY & AUDIO

Picture or sound problems

  • Press F11 to switch between fullscreen and windowed mode.
  • Open Settings to select a window size and adjust both volume sliders.
  • Press M if music was muted with the quick toggle.
  • Update your graphics driver if the window is blank or flickering.
  • Check the active Windows audio output if sound is missing everywhere.
GAMEPLAY HELP

Can’t leave a room?

During an ambush, red barriers intentionally seal the exits. Defeat every enemy with your claws, then collect the glowing room key in the center to reopen the doors.

  • The HUD shows the remaining enemy count.
  • Outside an ambush, approach the center of the doorway.
  • Use Tab for the map and follow the gold arrow toward the main room.
  • If movement remains blocked, load your last save with F9.

Why did I return to Purrwick Village?

If an enemy defeats your cat during an ambush, you return to the main room with part of your health restored and lose the treats you were carrying. This is normal gameplay rather than a save failure.

How do I restore health?

Defeated enemies can drop glowing green Moonberries that restore health when collected. A Moonberry remains on the floor if your health is already full. Collecting an ambush room key also restores a small amount of health.

Where should I go after finding a quest item?

Follow the gold HUD arrow and compass. They point toward the relevant quest giver or back toward Purrwick Village. The journal, opened with Q, shows the current objective.

How does Prestige work?

Level progression stops at 100. At level 100, press P to open the Prestige confirmation screen. Prestige begins a new leveling cycle, records your new rank, and grants lasting combat strength. Save first.

Windows warned me about the game file. What should I do?

Only install builds obtained from the official Catkin Hollow Steam page or another source you trust. Do not disable your security software. Check that Steam completed the download, verify the installed files through Steam, and report the exact warning text if it continues.
